Getting Over Feeling Guilty about Money

After more than a year of doing killer money management, us Women’s Saving Club ladies have fallen into what appears to be a money funk.

At our April club meeting earlier this week, many of us had confessions along the lines of a late credit card payment, tucking away unread refinancing statements, using the credit card that didn’t have the maximum reward points…

Are we reverting to our old habits? Slacking off from being so vigilant? Simply taking a break?

Who knows for sure. But I think we all argued that our feelings of guilt that came along with it are a horrible byproduct of beating ourselves up over what is, in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal.

The bottom line is to remember that we’re doing great. What does one tiny, late credit card payment compare to the fact that all of us have increased our retirement savings? That each of us has hit savings goals, and that we continue to set new ones and strive toward them. That we’re learning and being more aware about financial matters and habits each month.

So yeah, let’s take a break now and then. Refresh. Renew. After all, it is springtime.
