On the Flip Side of Saving: Earning More

This month, one of the Women’s Saving Club gals put forth “sell something” as our monthly challenge.

To date, all our challenges have previously revolved around saving money here and there, not buying this or that, tucking away your wallet. But what if we simply earned more? Ok, scratch the “simply.” I know it’s hard. But if we all earned more, we could save AND spend more. (Obviously.) So there has to be a way to make it easier, right?  [Read more...]

Crowdfunding Round-Up

I’ve been interested lately in the idea of crowdfunding.   This idea describes a project or idea that is funded by a large number of people or crowd.  You may have heard of Kickstarter or LendingClub – both crowdfunding in different ways.

I’ve pulled some interesting articles if you want to take a look at what’s happening in the crowdfunding world.  You may see it as a way to develop passive income (a la Lending Club – loaning money to individuals with interest) or it may be interesting because of the potential for small business growth worldwide.  Happy Friday, Savers.

April is Financial Literacy Month

‘Tis the season for taxes AND financial literacy.  Presented by Money Management International, Financial Literacy Month is about YOU taking time to understand your finances.  America has one of the lowest savings rates in the industrialized world and according to the Federal Reserve, we carry $2.4 TRILLION in consumer debt.

So, this month, what can you do to get a better hold on your finances? What can you do to be a savvy saver?

Read our blog of course! But also visit the Financial Literacy Month site, for a 30-step path to financial wellness, pledge your commitment to savings and educating yourself or take a quiz to understand where you’re at today.

Here are some of our favorite club member tips:

* Make a budget, monthly and annually

* Review your credit report once a year, for free at Annual Credit Report

* Start your retirement savings and if you’re already saving, increase your contribution by 1 percent

* If you shop, ALWAYS look for a coupon or promo code online before you buy

* Talk to your partner about your goals in life. What are you saving for? Clarity is good for the soul and the pocketbook.

I’ll Take My Life with a Side of Cash

These days, everyone knows someone who is selling something online and making a little bit of cash on the side. We’ve talked about earning more doing our hobbies at various club meetings. However, I haven’t made the leap yet, instead doing some research for a friend into jewelry design to find options for her new online store.

At first, I had only heard of etsy.com. Then, while reading this month’s issue of All You, they talked about bigcartel.com. And then I was led to this review on the p brigette blog. (If only every question I had was thoroughly answered like this. This gal should work for Consumer Reports.)

Anyway, if you’re thinking about starting an online store, read this first and peruse the comments as they too contain helpful tidbits.

I came across this as well but haven’t had the time to research it. ClickBank. Has anyone else used it?
